Celebrating Portsmouth's education superheroes

Discover how we're celebrating Portsmouth's education superheroes

This year, we're recognising the amazing achievements of staff in Portsmouth's schools and colleges who go above and beyond for the city's children and young people.

We've introduced Teach Portsmouth celebrates, a series of activities giving everyone across the city the opportunity to show their appreciation. Read on for a quick update on the campaign so far and what's coming up.

Thanking Portsmouth's school superheroes

Earlier this year we asked parents, carers and local residents to share a special message of thanks for school superheroes who go above and beyond for the city's children, young people and families.

We received over 700 wonderful messages and would like to say a big thank you to everyone who took the time to get involved.

Meon Junior School (pictured) kicked off the campaign by hosting a special launch event in support of staff who have gone above and beyond for them.

When we hit 500 messages, a group of school superheroes at Arundel Court Primary Academy attended a thank you tea party with parents/carers, senior school staff and council leaders to celebrate this milestone.

Want to know more about our education superheroes? Meet Elaine, Caroline, Louise and Dom and discover the inspiring reasons why they have been thanked for going above and beyond.

Schools will receive a special hamper full of goodies and their thank a school superhero messages at the end of June.

Celebrating long service to education

For those who have worked in the city's schools for 20 years or more, we'll be holding a special long service to education event at Portsmouth Guildhall in June.

Nearly 90 long service recipients will be joining us for afternoon tea and a special awards presentation and trophy giving.

Meet Julie Terry and Debbie Mundy from Meon Infant School who have been put forward for a long service to education award and have a combined total of 57 years between them.

A big thank you to our sponsors

None of these activities would be possible without the help of organisations in the city. We would like to thank Salterns Academy Trust, University of Chichester Academy Trust, Caterlink and Solent Academies Trust for funding the event and hampers.

Also, a special thank you goes to The News as official media partner for Teach Portsmouth celebrates, and UK Flyers as official print partner across both activities.
