Meet the sponsor: Kier

Introducing Kier, sponsor of the outstanding contribution award

With the Teach Portsmouth Awards 2022 just over a week away, we're introducing you to our valued sponsors who have helped to make the event possible.

We caught up with Mark Boreham, commercial manager at Kier Construction to find out more about why they are sponsoring this year's outstanding contribution award.

Could you tell us about what you do and your connection to education?

We are one of the UK's leading regional builders and have extensive experience in delivering new school facilities. We are committed to creating spaces that provide modern, light, and vibrant spaces to aid learning and wherever possible, we will look to add sustainable elements, such as solar roofs or biodiversity gardens.

In the last 12 months, we have handed over 112 schools across the UK, including the new development of Mayfield School in Portsmouth, a state-of-the-art three-storey building that caters for over 1,200 primary and secondary pupils. We design and build schools for early years, primary and secondary education and provide back of house services to schools and colleges across Hampshire and beyond.

What do the Teach Portsmouth Awards mean to you/organisation?

The Teach Portsmouth Awards is a fantastic event to celebrate all of the brilliant work teachers and support staff are doing to help children in Portsmouth not only learn but thrive.

So often, they are going above and beyond in shaping the lives of the next generation and the Teach Portsmouth Awards allows us all reflect, celebrate, and thank them for their passion, hard work and commitment.

What are you looking forward to from the awards ceremony?

I'm looking forward to meeting so many of the teachers and support staff who are making such a difference for pupils in the local community.

What special message do you have for Portsmouth's teachers, support teams and leaders?

For most of us, there is a teacher that made a real difference to their education, and you don't forget that. So, I want to say a massive thank you for so many of the teachers and support staff being that person who makes a difference and supporting the next generation of talent here in Portsmouth.
