Meet the sponsor: Gunwharf Quays

Introducing Gunwharf Quays, sponsor of the innovation in teaching award

As we continue our exciting countdown to the Teach Portsmouth Awards 2022 we're introducing the valued sponsors who have made this year's event possible.

In this article we took some time out to speak to Yvonne Clay, centre director of Gunwharf Quays, about why they are sponsoring the innovation in teaching award.

Could you tell us about what you do and your connection to education?

Gunwharf Quays is a designer shopping outlet uniquely positioned on the beautiful Solent waterfront in the heart of Portsmouth. We have over 90 brands, offering up to 60% off retail prices, and over 30 restaurants, bars, and coffee shops.

At Gunwharf Quays we strive to actively support and celebrate our local community, sponsoring the Teach Portsmouth Awards resonates perfectly with this purpose. Developing the skills of younger people through teaching is crucial to seeing Portsmouth thrive. The greater the education of our youth, the greater potential talent and energy Portsmouth holds for its businesses and attractions. This in turn increases the opportunities that our city holds for its residents.

What do the Teach Portsmouth Awards mean to you/organisation?

I am very proud to play a part in supporting the Teach Portsmouth Awards. Being centre director of Gunwharf Quays, marketing director for Shaping Portsmouth and a local resident, I am personally heavily invested in the success of our wonderful city.

At Gunwharf Quays, our strong community and sustainability values align perfectly with the purpose of Teach Portsmouth Awards. The awards celebrate those in our community that work tirelessly to better our city's people and their prospects. We are delighted to sponsor the Teach Portsmouth Awards at such a timely moment. The pandemic highlighted to us all the commitment and dedication of those in the educational sector continuing to teach and support young people through the very challenging past two years. Sponsoring this award is the perfect opportunity to voice our thanks and appreciation.

What are you looking forward to from the awards ceremony?

The ceremony recognises those who have gone above and beyond to help children, young people, and families in Portsmouth. I am looking forward to meeting and hearing stories from these remarkable and inspirational people, who have continued their efforts throughout the pandemic and provided a positive support network to all those that need it.

What special message do you have for Portsmouth's teachers, support teams and leaders?

On behalf of Gunwharf Quays, I would like to thank you for your commitment and passion to teaching. The positive impact that one teacher can have on a child's future is incredible, and we are honoured to be a part of such a fantastic award celebration. Congratulations to you all.
