Nominate a superstar in the people's choice award
If your teaching hero has gone above and beyond to help you and your family in unique ways, Teach Portsmouth want to know. The people's choice award is now open, welcoming nominations from parents/carers whose children and young people attend a school or college in the city.
Introduced last year, the people's choice award celebrates school and college staff who have gone all out to help their community. Local people told us about how head teachers had delivered food parcels during lockdown as well as cleaning staff who worked extra hard to make classrooms COVID secure.
This year, we want nominations for teachers, learning support assistants and head teachers who have supported pupils in unique ways. We want to showcase their immense efforts by hearing inspirational accounts of support across all settings, including primary, secondary and post-16. Councillor Suzy Horton, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Education at Portsmouth City Council said:
"The people's choice award is one way local residents can tell us who deserves recognition for their efforts in supporting children and young people in the city. There are so many heart-warming stories to be told.

Be inspired to nominate a teaching hero
With nominations opening online, submissions have been coming in thick and fast for the people's choice award. Local residents have been busy telling us why Portsmouth's teaching heroes deserve recognition. Rebecca, a parent whose child attends Solent Infant School told us why she nominated Mr Mason for his work supporting her child.
"Mr Mason brings learning to life for every single child he teaches. He is so dynamic and flexible in his approach to the differing needs of each child in his class. Mr Mason currently teaches my child. They started year 1 not being able to concentrate. Now, they produce really good work. This was down to Mr Mason quickly identifying and adapting his approach in the classroom."
Rebecca has also said how Mr Mason has a love of music which he shares with his class. Rebecca's child has even started singing songs from The Beatles which is so heart-warming.
This is just one example of the inspirational accounts we have received from people across Portsmouth. Be inspired and nominate a teacher, learning support assistant or head teacher in your school/college to recognise the difference they are making.
