Webinar: Teach Portsmouth presents routes into teaching
A brand new webinar series set to inspire future teachers launches on Wednesday 4 November from 4pm to 5pm as Teach Portsmouth presents routes into teaching. Two newly qualified teachers from Portsmouth join Councillor Suzy Horton, Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Education at Portsmouth City Council for lively discussion and insight into teacher training.
With COVID-19 impacting face to face events, we've decided to organise three alternative events that are completely digital in the form of a webinar.
The new quarterly series concentrates on three topic areas: routes into teaching, career progression in teaching and changing career to teaching. The new format allows us to reach more people who may not have attended our in-person events in the waterfront city.

If you are considering teaching for the first time, knowing where to start can often be the first hurdle. 'Teach Portsmouth presents routes into teaching' challenges that head on by inviting two newly qualified Portsmouth teachers to talk openly about their experiences of teacher training.
Hosted by Councillor Suzy Horton, she will draw upon her experience in education as a teacher and deputy head in London as well as lecturing at the University of Portsmouth.

Each teacher has taken two very different routes. Abigail Abrahams took a school direct route whereas Emily Brown took a university based route.
While teaching is a rewarding career, each guest will give an honest view of teacher training, the challenges you might experience and top tips on how to overcome them. As an attendee, you will also have an opportunity to ask questions at the end of the webinar in a live Q&A.
About our guests
Two newly qualified teachers will go live to talk about their experiences. We wanted to introduce each guest ahead of the webinar giving you information on what route they took and how they got there.
Abigail Abrahams
Our first guest Abigail trained to teach in Portsmouth with the Portsmouth Teaching School Alliance and the University of Portsmouth, taking a school direct route to her post graduate certificate of education (PGCE) and qualified teacher status (QTS).
She absolutely loves being a secondary school English teacher, working at Mayfield School in Portsmouth. Her ambition is to inspire young minds to love Shakespeare!
Emily Brown
Our second guest Emily studied a BA (Hons) in education, special needs and disability at the University of Chichester. In her final year of study, she decided to apply for a post graduate certificate of education (PGCE) with an early years' specialism.
She's now a newly qualified teacher at Court Lane Infant Academy in Portsmouth which is a University of Chichester Academy Trust school.
