Find your way into STEM teaching

Teach STEM and inspire the next generation

Would you like to share your passion for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) to educate and inspire young people? Are you looking to change career and transfer your STEM skills to the classroom?

To help you start your journey into STEM teaching, we've pulled together useful information to inspire you into action.

Explore your training options

The route you take into teaching will depend on the qualifications you have.

Do you have a degree or equivalent qualification?

If so, you can do postgraduate primary or secondary teacher training. This might be your route if you are looking to change career from a STEM background and already have a degree in the STEM subject you wish to teach.

If you do not have a degree, you can do undergraduate teacher training.

Find information on funding

STEM teachers are in high demand and financial support such as bursaries and scholarships are available if you choose to train to teach certain subjects. These are tax-free amounts of money that you do not need to pay back.

Visit the Get into Teaching website to explore the funding available for teacher training courses starting in 2023/24 and find out if you are eligible.
